Ethereal Earth-pop duo Berne poetically use music to talk about issues they care deeply about: the climate emergency and social justice, while instilling hope for the future.
Berne's activism doesn't just stop at music. That's why they created a low impact, eco-friendly website. To raise further awareness they built an interactive music map that highlights environmental initiatives around the world.
Supported by the likes of EU DG Climate Action, TheWRD from The Ivors Academy, BBC Introducing, EARMILK, Headliner Magazine, and Sound City, Berne continue in their mission to inspire and urge people to bring about change in the world, to highlight that we are in charge of the future and that together we can make a real difference.
"A duo addressing injustice through music and beyond." BBC Introducing
"'Language' is a single that does a great job of establishing this new era for the band in the build up to 789, unabashedly laying out their priorities and making a stand for what they believe is right and just." Clout Magazine
"'Language' is a firm reminder of just how awe-inspiring they can be. Fresh and immersive at every turn, Berne already sound like they are entering the next phase within their musical evolution to date." Lock Magazine
"... Berne have created a body of work that intricately weaves important messages within lustrous soundscapes, emitting the only extra warmth the planet needs with their glowing sonics. Stay is a tender insight into two passionate minds wanting to collectively make a change; it's a call for unity and collective responsibility and it's time we make a change." Earmilk

Collectively making small changes will make a big difference to reducing our impact on the planet. Small changes to the food we eat, the clothes we buy, the way we travel and the way we communicate will go a long way.
Yes, the way we communicate is something we can change as the internet is a dirty place. Think about how much data is transferred on the internet in 1 minute. All of that data storage and transfer requires electricity, creating carbon emissions which have a bigger-than-you-think impact on climate change.
Limiting demand is a strategy that we apply elsewhere, for instance, by encouraging people to eat less meat, or to lower the thermostat of the heating system. However, it is controversial when applied to the internet, in part because the connection between the data we consume and energy is not as obvious.
Inspired by all this, we have decided to replace our dirty old website with a Low Impact Website. One that is 100% powered by on-site solar energy, atmospheric air, and water cooling in California. Everything about this website is designed and implemented in a way that keeps energy consumption to the minimum and shares Berne with the world without harming it. You will notice we are doing without data-heavy elements like images and videos, all of this tremendously reduces data transfers and consequently energy consumption.
HOSTING ON 100% SOLAR POWERED SYSTEM WILL YEARLY HELP TO ELIMINATE THE PRODUCTION OF:
34,488 LBS OF CARBON DIOXIDE (CO2/GHG)
50.6 LBS OF NITROGEN OXIDE (NOX/Smog)
37.4 LBS OF SULFATE (SO4/Acid Rain)
THIS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF PLANTING 8 ACRES OF TREES PER YEAR OR DRIVING A VEHICLE FOR 38,216 MILES PER YEAR.
If you are a website owner, we encourage you to think about the environmental impact of your website, and that of your hosting service provider.
If you are not a website owner, why not join us in spreading the word and encouraging this message?
We are on a mission to get as many artist websites converted into low impact websites as possible! 1 low impact website is insignificant on its own, but multiply that by 500 and collectively we would have made a real difference. If you would like to know more, would like to convert your dirty website into a low impact one, or are simply in love with our low impact website movement, GET IN TOUCH!
